Reggae recorded in Stereo format Pre 90s

If my memory and ears serve me correctly, I am pretty sure there are tracks mixed by Scientist that have stereo effects.

Im not entirely sure of this, or it might just be people mucking about with the recordings on later re-issues.

Hmm Well I have had a listen to a few tracks and Im going to conclude that my ears have been tricked by Scientist's brilliant mixing, making me hear stereo effects on what is "just" a mono recording. However I am almost certain I have heard Scientist-mixed tracks that have a delay effect set slightly different on the left/right channels, but if that is really the case, it must be post-Channel One mixes. (maybe still pre 90s tho, I dunno).

Note: I am referring to stereo mixed songs (different tracks panned left or right) as opposed to "true stereo recording" using 2 mics for each instrument type thing. And reading through the Blood&Fire thread, apparently there are pre 90s JA albums with stereo mixing.

EDIT: Blatant Stereo/panning effect at 32 seconds into "Time Warp" in the videos on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbbiuwzAW1U) but I dont know if this is on the original LP as I dont own a copy

EDIT2: Ok im not even sure Im not just imagining that due to frequency filtering, and Im too tired to put it into Audacity to compare left/right tracks.

Blackboard Jungle Dub was recorded with a Tubby mix in one speaker and Perry mix in the other, does that count as stereo effect?

Michael Prophet's "Serious Reasoning" lp has got extreme stereo panning effects on the vocals virtually all the way through, a touch overdone if you ask me!
Must be even tireder than Klaus5, couldn't follow the B&F thread, makes my eyes hurt.

Really? You are saying that there was 2 completely different mixes? Like Tubby's version on one channel and Scratch's version on the other? Wouldn't that sound horrible when played at the same time?

What release do I check out to hear this?

Sorry my mistake, what i meant to say was the original upsetter release(300 only pressed) was in true stereo with the riddim track in one speaker and solo instruments and percussion in the other. Your right of course that would sound awful Klaus!

Btw im just saying what it states on a lot of the reviews of the album dont know this for sure. Ive read the B&F forum on this matter and there is debate about this eg whether it was true stereo or just two mono mixes seperated into different channels, as i say im no expert..

well thats what stereo is really. listening to it now and yeah most of it is in stereo. the horns coming out of one speaker and the rolling drums and bass coming out of the other really REALLY work well together. what a great album

The Impact repress I have of this tune is in 'stereo.' However, It doesn't sound like it was recorded this way (i.e. no panning). Its pretty much vocals on one channel and music on the other.

King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown

Its mostly the effects, reverb and delays that are panned, some instruments do appear more in one channel that the other. Some highlights: Stop Them Jah you can the rhythm guitar being manually panned left and right at one point. Young Generation you hear the horns in one channel for most time, then it pans centre and then left and right. Each One Dub you hear the rhythm guitar in one channel and piano in opposite channel.
