so for me, i was into punk rock from an early age, due to my father's influence. i loved (and still love) the clash and i dug those weird slow-sounding songs of theirs with the funky basslines and off-beat guitars, but i didn't really 'get' what reggae was until my father gave me a CD that came free with MOJO magazine (i think, or it may have been Uncut). this CD really opened my eyes! from what i remember, it had on it Mr Brown by the Wailers, Easy Snappin', Ride Yu Donkey, Don't Let Me Suffer, Pressure Drop etc etc - all those songs that i would now consider standard Trojan compilation fodder, but I fell in love with the CD, i made tapes of it to play in the car (to my mother's discontent) and the first LP i bought was the Harder They Come soundtrack in a second hand record shop, which i played to death. from then on, reggae was, and always will be my favourite kind of music.
what was the first reggae song you heard? when did you guys discover your passion for roots music?
peace

An even earlier thread;
**["How did you first get into reggae music?"](http://www.roots-archives.com/forum/rea ... 021,page=1)**
"Now I know the truth and must reveal it unto the youth."
