Hi,
I have today bought the re-release of Freddie McGregor "Bobby Bobylon with the extra tracks and was taken aback by the last track "Bobby Bobylon/One Step Beyond which features Jackie Mittoo on organ.
I am a massive jazz fan and it reminded me of some of the great jazz/soul albums of the 60s by the likes of Jack McDuff, John Patton, Jimmy Smith, Freddie Roach etc.
Can anyone recommend any organ driven reggae albums in this vein for me to check out as its got me curious as to what I might be missing.

Naturally, check out Jackie Mittoo albums. I have Jackie Mittoo in London and Keep On Dancing. I also have the Keyboard King at Studio One compilation. Good set.

Funny, I just put on Jackie Mitto's LP excellent Hot Blood and then sat down and clicked on this post!
If you like the JAZZ/Reggae fusion sound then you MUST find a copy of this brilliant LP.
Mittoo was a real talent and crossed over to play with Jazz musicians. He was also a producer and arranger of considerable stature.
Reggae would have been much poorer without him. For me his influence on reggae music is as great as King Tubby's, easy.
All thanks and praises are due to his Grandmother who taught him to dance his fingers on the ivory at only four years of age.

Thanks for the advise, i`ll check out some other of Jackie Mittoo early releases starting with the Studio one Stuff.
What about his showcase album with the aggrovators from, I think, about 1978 or any other stuff from this mid/late seventies period. I guess these would be worth a try too ?

"Champion of the Arena", a Blood and Fire release, is very strong and will turn anybody onto Jackie Mittoo if they've never heard his output before.

The Studio One Showcase LP #SOLP 0130 is worth checking, I think. It's a bit strange in places, but has a couple of really haunting tracks.
