Your top ten instrumental reggae albums (not dub)

Post by babaluma1 »

I have been enjoying Joe Gibbs State of Emergency album and wanted to check out some similar albums. As I am far from an expert on reggae I thought I would ask here!

Please list your top ten instrumental reggae albums, including compilations. Preferably non Dub as I have a good list of these to check out. More stuff like early Lee Perry tunes like Return of Django and the previously mentioned Joe Gibbs LP.

if you dont know it yet, check out
Many moods of the Upsetter, terrific album, some tracks have vocals but i consider this to be an instrumental LP.

also upsetter - cloak & dagger LP may be? not much dubbed up, killer riddims. or "soul revolution part 2" for wailers instrumentals.

closest of those 3 to the sound of return of django would probably be the first one.

Check out Trojan and Studio One for compilations, various ones were issued. I gotta go work now but i'll try to be more precise later on

Definately that Rupie Edwards "Pure Gold" set is excellent. You can pick it up easily as its also titled "Success Archives Vol 3"

I also rate this quite highly

[cover=170,177]

Definately worth searching out too
