Hi bredren...
Well whats you opinion about the crazy prices on ebay...
especially the fact the most artists of the 70s still live in poverty, in the ghetto, while their chunes climb up to hundreds of dollars...
Well, that's sad. But is till bid. Cause in another way, before ebay, yu couldnt look for a tune. You had to grab those available in your record shop and by luck, find sometime one you were expecting...
Would be good to introduce a little tax, to promote artist with this money...
Go to Jamaica to record artists or at least, record dubplates, it helps a little...
what do you think?

Re: What do you think about ebay crazy prices?
it's unfortunate it can't help the artist but i can't see a way to fix that.
going to jamaica and recording some artists would be cool, but how many people are capable of doing that? if i flew to jamaica tommorow i probably couldn't get one of my favorite artists to record a song for me, which is a non issue anyways since i can't afford to go there anyhow.
the only thing i can see working is to buy in print albums from artists new in stores.
however the way the record business is setup(that goes double for smaller or poorer countries like) it is possible that won't help the artist alot.

Well...
While mr. jackie brown lives in the poverty,
inna bad health, and others vintage GREAT artists still living inna hard situation, this site sells the jamaican music for a very expensive price.
Detail: The artist dont win money with this sailing... in the seventies, they won a small payment, and now, a lot of people sells their work for a expensive price. It´s not just.
Mr. Prince Lincoln Thompson, one of the best vocals in the reggae music, died without any help, selling fruits and ital vegetables in London. And finally, with a expensive price, a very small group of collectors will know all those incredible tunes, when the eletronic music is stteping over the Roots music, killing the real reggae. It´s a sad history. But we have to find ways to preserve the jamaican music without spend all ours payments in vynil.
Greetings from Brazil.

what can we do aside from supporting the music though? i'm sure most artists are too proud to beg their fans for free money.

I was in a record shop, months ago, when Winston McAnuff arrived. Very deep, positive man, nice talk. He found an original copy of his last recorded LP "Eletric Dread", it was the first time he got a copy of it...(that's the case with most artists!) and had to pay it at high price.
Damn... if at least I would have the money... it's a shame he had to buy it. But man kept the smile...
Now JA artists are at least very conscious that they have a heavy potential internationnaly and wouldnt let any producer appropriate their stuff.
Hopefully, most of them could finally get their studio tapes back, after being overexploited for years... that's exactly how McAnuff released his stuff with MAKASOUND.
