Been going through my old vinyl and rediscovered Just Enough on Race records and Music Like Dirt on Copasetic Records, both by Nightdoctor. These would be late 70's or very early 80's releases.
Have done a search but cannot find any info on them.
Anybody know anything or know of other releases?

Re: Nightdoctor
I think they were a London band; they supported UB40 on tour at some point. I seem to remember them doing a session for the Radio 1 David Jensen show - I'm racking my brains to remember any of the songs they did for it.

Re: Nightdoctor
Nightdoctor, were like many reggae bands bought to the public attention because they released cracking debut songs and the public euthoria in the uk on the punk/reggae 2tone connection (race records was owned by the specials drummer). Unfortunately, the fickle public in the early 80's started to embrace the latest fad, new romantics/electronica (sic!). Likewise, I can't remember much about Nightdoctor, but I'll dig out and blast Just Enough this weekend to remind me of good times. Thanks for the memory.

Re: Nightdoctor
Nightdoctor - the group with the BEST instrumental tune ever !!!!!
They did thre 7" records (MUSIC LIKE DIRT + Version on Copasetic, JUST ENOUGH on Race, PELICAN DUB + Dirty Version on BLANK) and two 12" records (ROMANCIN' + MENELIK on Race and the 4-track 12" MENELIK showcase). The tune MENELIK is my all time favourite instrumental - KILLER horns! BEST! Danny Red was a member of Nightdoctor. UNDERRATED! Nuff said.

Can't believe others out there remember this excellent crew. Nightdoctor were a bunch of black and white guys from London and High Wycombe with a strict devotion to Studio One sounds.
Guitar player was Charles Louis Benjamin Woods, bass player, Roger Hairs. I think maybe Rico played with them for a spell.
Sadly missed.

Re: Nightdoctor
I remember a cassette tape of them - of live recordings - had a very basic photocopied style cover on dark pink paper - anybody else remember it? I think it was just called NightDoctor - in the intro to the firt number the 100 club is mentioned and also Vin Gordon and the horns - starts with a blazing horns ska track which is fabulous and then goes into some more standard roots reggae with Joe Frazier (not the boxer - although he did do some music!) toasting.
The compere gives us the quote that sums up the sentiments of us all on this thread:
'they never made it, I don't know why'
After listening to that tape - I didn't know why such a class band didn't make it!

Can anyone put up an mp3 of Menelik, I've been long wondering how that tune sounds, heard a lot about it?

What about the 12" DBC On The Radio, the theme song for the Dread Broadcasting Company. Caroline played keyboards for Nightdoctor, and she's the one on Horace Andy's Elementary album. Their were actually two caseette tapes of Nightdoctor circulating. Both of them showcasing what a great band they were. Lui Lepkie was a part of that as well. 3 12" and 3 7" may be all they ever got to record. Must be some unreleased stuff somewhere, I hope!
