I've seen similar-style cases on Amazon before, I can't believe that items with these prices would ever sell. I don't know how the marketplace works but there must be a reason behind it or some kind of mistake. Surely sellers can't be expecting to sell these?

Yes, it seems to defy logic. I kind of get it when a rare record or book or whatever from decades ago fetches a steep price. But when a seller lists an out-of-print but recently mass-produced item for such an inflated value, do they really think it's going to sell? Maybe someone with a business background can explain. (Would a vendor do it just to spike the worth of their inventory to make them look better to the bank?)

Or is it just belief in the old David Hannum line: "There's a sucker born every minute"?

By the way.... a little off topic I guess, sorry. I'm far from being an expert on shoes. What are "lean boots"? Lean as in "slim/thin"? Or lean as in "to bend/to bow"?

No more lean boots, mi done with dem. Okay, so Michael Palmer doesn't like to wear these shoes at the dance. Are they too tight and hurt his feet while he's dancing all night?

"Lean boots" simply means "cheaply made shoes". He'd rather have something more substantive, like a nice pair of Clarks (he recorded that song back when Clarks were still a quality shoe, made in the UK).

People pay a lot of money for out-of-print items.....take reggae records for example.

I think Amazon sellers just name a price based on things being out-of-print, and cross their fingers that someone will buy it. Records and books have no real intrinsic value, it's a question of what people are willing to pay for something, and what people are willing to offer that something for. Almost anyone would part with anything they own for the right price.
