Pioneers - Proverbs and social commentary (new book)

Post by ColdSweat »

Recently received two books that are about to be published, celebrating the Pioneers' 50 years in reggae music. The two books analyze the lyrics of the group's songs, from the ska days via rocksteady to reggae and thereafter. Since patois is sometimes hard for me to understand - and reading the book it suggests even Jamaicans sometimes have a hard time grasping what a song is about - it made for interesting reading. Lyrics, phrases and old time sayings are explained and where possible, some nice background information is given (lead singer etc).

I thought I'd share the preview with you, click here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/400 ... overbs.pdf to see an excerpt of the second book.

Please note that this is not the final product, but a sample of the book in an earlier stage, before some (stylistic) corrections were made. The final product, i understand, will look a bit different (lettertype, photo's etc.)

"The Pioneers’ 'First & Second Book of Proverbs and Social Commentary'
were written to celebrate the Pioneers' musical journey from ska to rocksteady and from reggae to its fusion with funk and soul. Written by Indiana Robinson - aka Inyaso and wife of Pioneers member Jackie Robinson - the book gives an insight into the lyrics and music of the legendary group as seen through the eyes of a lifetime fan who was often there when the music was written. Indiana's intent is to draw on narrative and content analysis as a methodology to bring the groups’ lifeworks to prominence and to highlight their important contribution to the reggae music industry."

I see the print-on-demand soft cover books are like $76.00 each, out of my price range I'm afraid, would have been interesting to read them though.
