NEW Channel One Studio's
Hi RA Posse
I was reading a forum/article on another reggae site about 1 year ago saying a NEW channel One Studio's opening up soon......
However there was a big debate about it not being able to keep its original RAW SOUND - and all the great artists either DEAD or turned to HARD DRUGS
How many people know about this, or think a a new channel 1 studio will be unsucessful
JAH LOVE

Re: NEW Channel One Studio's
Can any studio, Channel One or other, reproduce the raw sound that was generated throughout the 70`s and early 80`s.
It was music of the day played by musicians and artist with feeling bought about by the environment in which they lived and suffered.
Any attempt to recreate this sound today would just result in a poor imitation.
Todays music is different, it just does not compare with the classic analogue recordings of yesteryear.
Channel One, Studio One, Randy`s etc are immortal. Let them rest in peace and just appreciate the legacy that they left us.
Respect
Dave

Re: NEW Channel One Studio's
Thats Exactly what i&i debated Rootsman
The RAW & Analogue sound generated back inner 80's an 70's cant be reproduced. - it was the GREAT sound of the times
Plus - i dont bleve the ciontent of todays artsists could match the old skool artists
ANYWAY, Most of My Favortie Toasters & Singers are either dead and gone or Turn Fi hard drugs

Re: NEW Channel One Studio's
While I am sure many musicians have the technical ability to play instruments rather well , even in these electronic days - I have to agree with the general line of this thread - it's the VIBE that can't be recaptured.
The world is a completely different place. And I don't know, because I have never been to JA, but I suspect Trenchtown is very differnt too.
Once, oppressed people had a revolutionary spirit, which I feel was embodied by the reggae sound of the time. But today, people aren't so much into revolutionary things, but just want to get money (earn it, win it, steal it) so they can buy DVD, LCD, BMW etc etc.

so you don't think they had a taste for material things in those days too? everybody was after something, clothes, cars, drugs, furniture, anything of the materialistic stuff... just the same as now, but now we have different things dvd, lcd, bmw or whatever it is

Slimmy. Of course man has ALWAYS had a taste for material things.
BUT I think commercialism is much more rampant today, and more people are more completely addicted to it.
Its my feeling that during the 60s and 70s a few people still cared also for justice, equal rights, and freedom from oppression. And that is exactly what was expressed in some of the best roots music of the day - even in non-reggae music.
But today, I find it hard to find this sentiment in people and often when I do, it turns out to be hollow, or just put on for fashion. And it seems REALLY rare among modern musicians.
It is wrong for me to generalise things like this, but I have to do so or else my post would turn into a 5,000 word article on the state of humanity today.
I am not sure how old you are, and if you lived through them times. But to me, the world HAS changed a lot since then, and not much for the better.
These are only my opinions and observations.
Maybe you have a theory or opinion you'd like to add as to why we can't seem to find reggae music like that produced in the 70s and early 80s anymore?

st. rafael- the dreadlocks disciple
Re: NEW Channel One Studio's
greetings, from i a true disciple of JAH (THE CREATOR).no false dread here.i cant believe what i read with i vision...i thought i was alone in this time of world...all have turn to vanity,no one gives praise nor devote thire lives to the almighty life giver..all are fullfilling the text,by going to the right and left way.i know revelation is around the corner,so i man make haste, calling on GOD morning day and night,a true believer,of JAH(PSALMS 68-4)AND OF THE SON CHRIST.......WICH ONLY THROUGH THE FAITH OF HIM YE SHALL INTER WITH NO LACK OF BELIEVE.CLEAN HANDS AND PURE HEART SEEN...i just e mail you to let you know i too want to start a new revolutionary sound of the 70's and 80's but the artists are into main stream and their chants arn,t from the spirit of god but of man.i have a natural god given talent wich i allow the spirit to enter i man flesh to chant psalms to H.I.M and to send some message to the falling race, their is corruption on the land, back bitting, ridiculing, and murder, never less the immoral unclean spirits of fallen mankind, sad to see but that is the fullfillment of revelation, that the love of mankind shall grow COLD.i have been listning strikly to rasta i gave up other forms of music since i was about 13 years old ,I AM NOW 27.i just guess i had a natural calling ,just like i am a natural dread..i have been studing dj's like welton irie, ringo, purpleman,u brown, cpt. sinbad, ranking trevor and the wild explosive chanter ranking joe, tuning to their vocal structure and practicing reciting thier chants,i dont immatate nor copy, but i use this material to create my own chants over dubbing in my private studio.i yet let anyone listen to not one song,i dont even go to clubs or chant with local bands, just because they knott up thier head but dont live to rastafari principle..seen.i cant make the origonal sound like the radics,or sly and robbie, but i can bring back the REVOLUTIONAL DJ chants chanting non stop lyrics, like buro in his early days, one time ago someone said i sound like sinbad, sometimes my vioce will sound like purpleman OR RANKING JOE.i think at times when i am chanting on the mic that its not me chanting but that some kind of spirit enters me,perhaps some kind of late dj?sometimes i shock myself with what i am cappable of creating(NO BOAST) overdubbing on old 45's and 12 inches.i earlier wanted to start a studio called channell 2 ,CREATING THE FORMER OLD STYLE.but due to not beable to find real talented artists around my part of town i find my self living alone reading my bible, because all would rather party, instagate or is up to no good.discrimination, because i is a big dread,i cant get no work down in here,i have been out of work for on and of 3 years now its tough but i man hold fast, for now my work is jah works, singing and chanting thanks and praises unto JAH..it would be nice to unite with someone with the same aspects, but meanwhile i A WAIT TO BE JOINED WITH TRUE BRETHREN & SISTREN IN JAH KINGDOM TO COME,WHERE ALL DJ'S WILL BE THERE WITH ALSO THE SINGERS AND PLAYERS.BLESSED..I GIVE THANKS..FOR I WILL KEEP PRACTICING MY DJ CHANTS TILL THE DAY OF MY DEATH,FOR I WILL ENTER THE VALLEY OF DEATH CHANTING UP NUFF LYRICS CONTROLLING THE DEMONIAC SPIRITS TILL I REACH JAH LIGHTS OF ZION...CHANTING PRAISES FOREVER IN HEAVEN,(PERHAPS WE WILL MET UP THERE AND CREAT MUSIC..FOR IT IS ORDAINED BY THE FATHER..LOVE AND RESPECT EVERYTIME FROM I RANKING UGLY MAN BECAUSE WHAT I SIGHT ON JAH LAND IS UGLY..HOPE TO SEE THE NEW CHANNEL ONE START UP ,MAYBE I CAN GET SOME PROMOTION SEEN...? JAH LOVE & Guide.i .&..all...from i st.rafael Dreadlocks Disciple ,PRAISE H.I.M SELAH

i wouldnt mind hearing what THE NEW CHENNEL 1 would have to offer!
my point is simply that it can never replace the OLD sound
