Slum in Dub

Post by leggo rocker »

I have a copy of this LP:

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2194

But mine has a 'Burning Vibrations' label - not shown in the RA database.

Matrix:
KEV BS1010 A
BS1010 B1

What can anyone tell me about that?

Nothing more that it was released on Burning Vibrations :)

Burning Vibrations/Rockers/Sounds released many of their releases on both labels. Burning Vibration and Rockers tend to be the earlier issues if I'm correct.

Hi Leggo

A friend of mine has this on African Museum label.

It is definately a Jamaican Import which he has had many years from way back in the early eighties.

I do not know if it an original pressing but it was 2nd hand when he bought it.

It came from a shop in Proctor Street near Holborn tube station (Can`t recall the name).

I know this as I was with him when he bought it.

Lion:

Yours is on Burning Sounds?

I know that the re-release has an orange plain label, instead of the usual blue and coloured Burning label.

Rootsman:

Your friend is lucky, sounds like that is Gregory Isaacs' JA predecessor of the English release. What colour is that label? I have never seen it on African Museum.

I know also this copy here is an early 80s release. I bought it from a friend who was given it as a review copy when he worked at Black Echoes at the start of the 80s. It's just I never see it on the Vibes label, not here nor ebay.

Fortunately, the man love his vinyl and played them once onto tape and then put them away. The vinyl is mint, the cover would be also if only he had kept them in vinyl sleeves. I now control many of his old vinyl as he recently decided to sell them all on. And I am happy to be in that position as I get joy from well preserved vinyl.

I will try to scan the label this week so they can add it to the artwork here.

Hi Leggo

My mates copy.

The label is and off white colour with turquiose colour writing and logo.

Matrix number say AM018.

Sleeve is quite thick cardboard and the bottom of the rear cover says made in jamaica.

On the front cover right hand side of sleeve the cardboard is cut right on the M on the word slum and the right top corner edge of the Y in Gregory as been cropped.

Hope this helps

Hi Leggo,

Sorry, he also says that on the rear cover the first letter on each word has also been cropped.

Play list is on the left hand side in a column and at the bottom it says recorded at Channel One, backed by the Revolutionaries.

Underneath that it has the African Museum logo and under that it says "Made in Jamaica"

Sorry, was eating me dinner when I was talking and posting original response

Rootsman, your bredren has a JA copy for sure. Like I said, I never see that before. Interesting!

Lion:

Whereas this one here is green and yellow stripes background. There's white-out silhouette of some people dancin to the riddim.

Burning Vibrations in gradient faded orange with black outline.
