Queen & Pope

Post by Litelet »

Hi all...

just a point...
I was wonderin why the rasta lyrics refer to Rome, Vatican and pope as symbol of Babylon... and rarely the UK Queen, for example... because the Anglican church that was brought by the Englishs in Jamaica doesnt recognise the holyness of the Vatican and is splitted from catholicism... and the Queen / God sound so more as a symbol of the colonsation...

Just a thinkin while workin.... good day all

UK like most of europe aplay a big role inna capture of we black people an the queen represent the rule of UK.

someting i found on pope : -

The RastaŐs reject the Pope very much. ŇBurn the Pope. Burn the Pope manÉ.The Pope is a vampire, wants our blood. Selassie I is the head. The Pope is the devilÓ(Lewis pg 45). This quote of a Jamaican Rasta is an example of how the RastaŐs feel about organized religion and the Pope.

Just try to find some infos about the Valladolid debate in 1550. The question was about American Indians: should European have to consider them as human or not. The answer was yes, they are humans so slavery can't apply to them.

But the interesting point is that the Catolic Church suggested that there would be an alternative to maintain the economic profits from Caribean colonies: the massive importation of African to work as slaves. I don't remenber why, at the time, the African were considered less human compared to Inadians and Europeans.

The Valladolid debate is a turning point which make possible the slavery system.

Worse still, some Native American tribes owned Africans as slaves. Just last week the Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma voted to revoke the tribal citizenship of the descendents of slaves owned then freed by tribe members in the late 1800s. Until this, the freed slaves' descendents had been considered tribe members.

My great-grandfather was from a different tribe entriely, but I still feel the shame from this. My apology is worthless, but I offer it anyway. It's all I have to offer in this situation.

Including the freemen and their descendents in the tribe was the right thing to do. Revoking the citizenship of their descendents is almost as bad as the original crime of slavery!
Peace,

James
