Johnny Clarke - Fittest of the Fittest

Post by jc_everton »

Yo, I'm pretty sure you guys are aware of the classic dub by King Tubby, 'Fittest of the Fittest dub'. Am I right in saying that the original was by Johnny Clarke and I can find this on Originally Mr. Clarke?
Also, as there's so many fantastic dub tunes out there, does anyone know of a site that tells you who originally made the dub song? As most dub tracks are basiaclly re-mixes, I'm always interested in knowing who actually made the song in the first place.
Any help on either topic is well appreciated.
Cheers.

I think it's originally a Barry Brown tune under the same title.

Yes
The original is a barry brown tune.

Al Campbell also used this same riddim on a couple of tracks.

Barry Brown 12" version though is well heavy.

There is a Barry Brown cut, "Enter The Kingdom of Zion", and also a Johnny Clarke cut "Fittest of the Fittest". I've never heard of the Al Campbell cut? Can anyone provide me with the title?
