Jackie Mittoo Macka Fat Orig JA Press?

Post by dubjay »

Been reading the forums for a little while here...lots of great knowledge being shared.

Macka Fat is my favorite Jackie Mittoo album. I'm getting ready to take the jump and try to find an Original JA Press. Can anyone give me any pointers as to how to tell the original from later issues?

Thanks!

The price....

If it is an original you'll need a month's wages to buy it.

This will help a little:

The matrix number on the original JA issue is FCD 7636, and it was released on a black & white Coxsone label. The matrix on the US re-issue is SOL-1120 MACKA FAT SO-CM, which appeared on a blue & white Studio One label.

However, the original issue was probably re-pressed on numerous occasions, and the US re-issue can probably be found on various Studio One and/or Coxsone labels. I can confirm that the original pressing suffers from considerable surface noise.

Thanks for all that info everyone. Especially Rob! (Checked out your site...its quite impressive).

One other question:
I see that there was a "re-mix" of the album that came out a few years later which had extended versions of a couple of tracks. Any idea how one can tell an original JA press of that one? (Martix,Lack of the Brooklyn address on the label, colors of ink used to print the label, fonts, etc)? Or, does one just have to go based off of how old the thing looks and smells.

Thanks,

Will
