Because another thread is being hijacked by a drug discussion, I thought perhaps better if we start a new thread dedicated to opinions, viewpoints and experiences of the drug issue.
So go ahead guys, give us your thoughts on the legalisation of weed and what you think about state drug policy in general.
Legalise it? A drug induced thread...

I agree with you to a large extent, but Cannabis should be legal - can't see any reason for it not to be. They are trying very hard to prove that it is bad for you, but the vast majority of what they find shows it to be beneficial to your health in a number of ways.
As for nasty drugs like smack, I remember seeing it destroy good friends in my youth, so it is hard to argue for legalisation due to moral issues. However, I have seen many convincing arguments from both the police and the medical profession that suggest it would be easier to control and to help people if it was legal?
Hitorically, prohibition has not been very successful, so maybe it is time for change!
Tough issue - plenty of room for discussion.

haha yeah i posted in the other thread but yeah mon, theres a lot of misguided programs, misguided policys, misguided people... its really a sad thing, but a lot of those people are so near sighted, closed minded, thick headed individuals, stuck in that same grove man, just cant ever see breakin out, doing things another way, unfortunatly i think the only way change is going to come about is after a few generations, let some of these older thinkers die off, then maybe change. maybe.

it really boggles my mind that alcohol is legal and dare i say running rampant through the world leaving this hugh wake of destruction and misery in its path? People doing things that they wouldnt even think of doing if they were sober, the hundreds of thousands of people killed due to drinking and driving, i mean it seems pretty damn evident to me man, its all there right on paper, but yet still...but i mean what do i know, i smoke herb.

the great irony is that i am an addict, on a product that the government benefits financially from, cigarettes. and with the known damage that nicotene does and the amount of people its contributes to killing each year, it will always be available.
the herb on the other hand is something i know i can abstain from without any cravings, and i know its not going to kill me. theres no recorded death anywhere in the world from weed. and thats after hundreds maybe thousands of years of use . the system that holland uses should be adopted worldwide. and take the weed away from the dealers, who offer you every other type of drug when you go to buy a draw.

herb should be legal across the globe.
tobacco is a root of evil.
hard drugs are also evil because of what they do to people.
i do agree with the holland laws. $ spent on jailtime could be put into drug education and the like instead. the usa's war on drugs is a crock of poo.

Re: Legalise it? A drug induced thread...
I've just been discussing this issue with my partner.
We live in an area plagued by drug induced crime and alcohol abuse. The damage is plain to see to both the user and the innocents that get robbed and beaten by these people.
The locals are scared of them and don't take action. Whereas when I have witnessed smack and crack dealing in the street I have, probably foolishly, approached the individuals and asked them (in my best anglo-saxon) to **** off and not return. Actually, this has worked because one street corner is no longer being used like this after I repeatedly challenged the lowlife's there.
This apathy and fear from the general population simply allows this type of thing to happen. We should unite and push these people and let them know our feelings. I think this works. Retake the neighbourhood!
I would like to see heroin etc all sold at the chemist. They should be quite cheap and carry a portion of tax which should go DIRECTLY to providing education and facility for the youth of the area in an attempt to stop them going down this route.
Then, the smack heads can get all fix they want from their welfare cheques and they don't have to rob and steal from I and I.
Meanwhile, organised crime and gunmen will be separated from the drug trade, which is a positive. Drug money is fueling organised crime and promoting gun culture. Take this away from them now.
Interestingly, I recently read that the war against the so-called extremists in Afghanistan has actually made the supply of heroin from there grow. Becuase now little effort is being made to stop it. This is another reason for legalising it. It would become just another agricultural produce to be sold openly at market, no need for guns and crime to distribute it.
Of course this will never happen because the ruling classes have absolutely no idea at all about this subject and no clue how to deal with it. They are also not suffering the consequences of their own policies in the way that we are here in the mean streets of the city.

In fact you are allowed to grow it.. if it is in a small proportion, for your own use.Vinnie wrote:Survival wrote :I live in the Netherlands, and soft drugs are already legalized.

It is 'officially' not allowed to carry more than 5 gram of marihuana, and you're 'officialy' not allowed to smoke in public.
But the police does nothing about it, just like you say it, it is 'gedoogd'.
