I have been upset by the silly arguments breaking out on this forum. I tried to talk to all parties concerned, but my peace initiatives failed in the end.
I do not think, however, that starting forums about individuals is really on. I have seen the one about leggorocker and believe he may have started threads complaining about other users too. I'm sure there are other examples that I may have missed.
Would it be sensible to have a rule where threads are deleted immediately if they are aimed at a member personally?
It might help stop some of this!

Have I done that? Sorry if I did. It is out of order.MightyZ wrote:I have seen the one about leggorocker and believe he may have started threads complaining about other users too.
Having said that, the post started about me was actually very positive for me in the end.
And Rootsman, who is a righteous fellow, has even apologised having now seen the wider picture.
My inbox is FULL of messages of support which have made me feel MUCH better. Thanks again all of you.

Re: Time for a new rule?
I think deleting without explanation is not productive.
It is just white washing and in some cases is done or seen to be done to clear the deleter of any fault.
It also does not stand as an example of what is unacceptable if there is nothing to compare or see.
JUST LOCK THEM OFF QUICKLY
Of course if there is something offensive or threatening you can delete that part and add a WARNING/EXPLANATION as to why that portion has been deleted
THIS is exactly why I no longer post on another "Reggae" forum.
( which I will not name because I am still hoping the Mods there will see the light )
That forum has degenerated into one BIG OT forum with most of the threads having nothing to do with REGGAE MUSIC.
At least RA has an OT section and if you are not interested in OTs you do not have to sift through dozens of ego driven threads.
I hope the MODS here can stay neutral or show restraint when dealing with people who just want to exercise their ego or have the last say on everything.
I know I have had a couple of things deleted because it was deemed to be promoting a business interest and I could see that it was not acceptable so I did not do it again even though I have no connection to that business while other posts were blatant advertising by the owner of that business......but I do not want get into a shit fight over something as minor as that because I can see the Mods here are serious about keeeping this site about MUSIC
RESPECT

Re: Time for a new rule?
Yeah, I had also had my records for sale posts deleted. So that's one reason why we opened the buy sell trade area, to give a legitimate but totally separate area for that. I think that's worked really well and I have bought and sold records in there with 100% success and satisfaction.
Maybe we also need a Monty Python style 'argument forum' so the people who simply want negative friction and strife can go get their fill!

With all due respect, I think this very overreactive. Most all of the disagreements on this forum are harmless and if people don't want to engage in them they can simply not respond. Leggo, you admitted that you are a pretty sensitive person and often get hurt when people disagree with you. Knowing this, I think you would be setting yourself and the forum up for a lot of misery if posts started being closed or deleted.
You have strong opinions, Oras does too. Glu is usually just trying to be funny. In the Deep South, we'd say he's "trying to get your goat." I don't think that any of these things require some sort of initiative to keep things positive. If the posts are non-thretening and not personal then let them be. Anything else, like super-imposed editing, censoring, or rules, is somewhat akin to fascism.

You live in the South?
I love the 'deep south'.
I had such a wonderful time with the people of New Orleans and the nicest Americans I ever met were in the Southern states.
I must return someday soon.

Hi MightyZ
To be honest, if we all follow the rules of the forum and act accordingly then their should never be a reason to delete a thread.
We are all adults here and believe we all know right from wrong and where to draw a line.
I acted badly yesterday, held my hands up and have apologised unreservably to all concerned.
But my post althought wrong was born out of frustration out of seeing how some threads have developed to create a negative vibe and a bad atmosphere.
There is no need for it, discussions, differences of opinion and even constructive argument in a nice way are all positive aspects of what a forum is all about.
We all have our differences of opinion on all types of subject matter and each opinion, howver much we disagree, should be respected.
Antagonism, direcspect and outright rudeness is not a good thing at all and its these elements that create the bad vibe and bad atmosphere.
Like I said, we are all adults and its down to every single one of us to play by the rules and treat every single member with the respect they deserve.
This is just a very basic rule but one that if we all follow would lead to peace love and harmony in this communuty.
So lets all make this effort for everyones sake, after all, everyone of us are here for the same reason and only we can make it work.
Respect to all and one love
Dave

I don't like posts being deleted unless its spam or something, locking them is better. It's nice for the regular users to see what is going on.
