Living Dub reissues - are these the original mixes??!!
By which I mean, are the reissues of volume 1 + 2 from 2003(?) on Burning Spears own label the Sylvan Morris dubs from waaaayyy back in the day? Or are they the Heartbeat dubs fae the early 1990s? I have heard neither, but am curious and thinking of splashing the cash, so I would much appreciate any knowledge, facts, opinions and outright biases that the fine folk on this board would care to share.

Thank you Rootsman. Will be buying the Burning Spear reissues by the looks of things - just ordered volume 2. Now begins the waiting...

Hey bredrin
It was back in 1996 when i first heard Burning Spear Living Dub vol.2 on the Heartbeat label mixed by Barry`O Hare and it is still one of my favorite albums.Since then i know own the originals vol.1&2 and obviously the Heatbeat versions with overdubs which was mixed by Barry`O Hare in the early nineties.
If your gonna spend your money on Living Dub i reccommend the Heartbeat labels which even though they are the later issues they vary alot to the originals. They have a more militant and majestical feel to them than the originals.
There`s no doubt that Living Dub Vol.1 on Heartbeat is deffinitely better than it`s original.Living Dub vol.2 on heartbeat which its tempo has been slowed down a bit with heavier congas and horns, the original is very paced up and the bongos and horns sound dull.
From a Spear fan which owns the living dubs series i reccommend the heartbeat labels and plus they have a cool cover compared to its original. If you got some spare cash after buying the Living Dub 1&2 on heartbeat try get living dub 4 which is a quality album as well.
Hope this helps if you need any more advice just send i a message.
Peace out!
