"Rootsman" the Moderator ?

Post by Rootsman »

Guys,

I was really flattered yesterday to see my name had been put forward to be a Moderator. It left me somewhat speechless to think that the users of this site see me in this role.

On the strength of those comments, I have actually been approached to see if I would be interested in taking on the job as a Moderator.

However, there are many users of this site and I am aware that not everyone may feel the same on the subject.

I have opened this thread because I want to give you, the forum users, the opportunity to give your opinions. I want honesty here, whether it be positive or negative as I would only consider taking on this role if I had the general backing and support of the people here.

After all, I am first and foremost a forum user and really have no idea of what being a Moderator would actually involve.

I am also very much aware that there are many users here who`s knowledge of reggae music far surpasses mine and if being a Moderator was based on musical knowledge, then there are many more of you who are far more worthy than me.

And finally, I am quite a busy person on the work front and usually work 6 days a week. I also have a wife and 8 year old daughter and try to spend what spare time I have with them. My time spent on RA is quite often limited and I dont always get as much time here as I would like.

I have asked the question what would be expected of me in respect of time commitement as I would only consider being a moderator if I felt I could give the role the time and effort it requires.

So please, feel free to speak your mind and voice your opinions as I would only do this with the support of you, THE USERS.

Regards

Dave

No surprise here:
100% backup from me, we need another moderator to balance the situation and, first of all, who have great great knowledge and very positive attitude and that means Rootsman:)

I would wholeheartedly support your elevation my friend.I feel that its not so important the time you put in as the quality-nobody expects you to give up anything to take this on especially when it comes to family. There is no reason why you cannot provide support when its needed and keep the status quo.
Respect everytime.

Rootsman-

You state your opinions in a calm, rational, and clear way. You obviously care about this site and seem to especially care about keeping reggae alive and thriving.
I personally have noticed you treat people who have wondered on to this ite because they are buying their first reggae albums and looking for suggestions the same as you treat people who are asking about obscure label numbers and rare 7"s---with respect. For those reasons, I believe you'd really make a good choice for moderator.

You have my vote. Bring back the forum when we could talk about reggae music and not attack others.

There are lot of young people that are getting into reggae music. Let's not discourage new listeners just because of their media preference. I grew up with the vinyl era transitioning into CDs but collect vinyl along with Cds but let's respect the people who buy CDs and mp3s.

Dave,
I think you'd do a nice job.

I haven't been here as much as I used to, partly because I've been busy with work, but also partly because I'm not interested in the name calling, etc. that I've seen recently. If new blood would calm some of the nerves on here, I'm all for it and you'd be a great choice.
