Finding Peace Within Yourselves (Share your knowledge)

Post by bullit »

So i was sitting here, thinking positively about how everyone finds peace within their lives.

This is a broad question, some people may live lifestyles in which they are almost always at peace with their surroundings, however others may live in cities and have to work jobs which they dont like and may need to find that inner feeling of peace with the world sometimes.

An example would be, when i have to study or work all day on things i dont enjoy i may feel aggitated or unconnected with myself.

I live in the city and ideally i'd be able to go out to the countryside and take a nice walk in the sunshine and sit and think for a while in a wood or something to clear my thoughts and centre myself on positivity.

This is not always possible though and i know a friend who has a room in his home like a temple which is very minimalist so he may sit on the floor and simply think.

Many of you may just put a record on and have a smoke, i enjoy this also, but it doesnt always help me find 'myself'.

This is a little vague and i hope you understand what i mean, i thought it would be interesting to hear how others take time out to connect and we may be able to learn new ways in which to enspire our creativity and love through the sharing of this knowledge.

Its hard to find peace when the brainwash is everywhere. Look up these terms on wikipedia:

meditate

read books or listen to words by those who have studied meditation and inner peace for most of their lives.
examples are pema chodron, thich naht hahn, ghandi, siliva boorstein, dalai lama, and there are many more.

join a group of like minded people in your city, even nyc has many such communities.

start a garden or join a community garden

keep beleiving that you can do whatever you want to when you put your mind to it. you can change your evironment around you if you change your perception of that environment

free your mind and your ass will follow...a crazy man once said.

not that i always have inner peace but over the years i have become closer to that point and i am nowhere near as full of intermittent impatience, anger, and disapointments within life the way that i used to. once you can recognize those moments you can truly absorb the good things around you and then the change will perhaps come to you inside.

I've taken to sitting outside in a little tent, in my back garden!

I have a little sound system and sometimes play some reggae music.

Last night I stayed out there just watching the colours change as the sun set. It was a wonderful way to wind down after the day's work.

Nice leggo, we get some amazing sunsets here in New Mexico, you can just see for miles and miles, and the mountains turn a deep pink...super relaxing to just sit and take it all in.

As far as myself, ill hop on my longboard and carve up a nice hill :) ya know, in the city/around my house, during the week.

but when the weekend rolls around and im feeling that i really need to get away, ill go backpacking, take a couple of days and hike out into the wilderness, get back to nature, go by myslef, pack some herbals, lay by the fire, and watch the stars.

Thanks for all the input, hopefully we can all take away some ideas for relaxing and put them into use.

I study the environment and it includes a lot of human-environment relationships, its interesting to see that even with all the technologies of this world, our most basic instincts are what we use to relax.

That common love for the outside world, nature, its a great bond. I could happily do anything that has been suggested and 'wind down'.

I love walking and camping out, Easy, do you go alone?, backpacking like that sounds nice, the UK there are not many wilderness's left but maybe thats just cause i havent found them yet -i'll have to try.

A lots been said here and i dont have time to reply to all of it so i'll update this reply on thurs when im home

The UK has loads of quite, lonely and tranquil places Bullit.

I could even show you some in the middle of London, like Camley Park in Kings Cross for instance - a wonderful oasis of natural beauty and calm set in the heart of London!

hey bullit, yeah, ill go alone, its better in the sense that i can hike whereever i want, as far as i want, pitch camp where i want, without anyone questioning what im doing and why...ya know?

I find that im also able to reflect a lot better when im by myself.

i man enjoys hiking and camping in the nearby forests and mountains, getting to visit at least once a week, and biking sans destination all over the city when i cant leave town.

the main thing for i that keeps i mind sharp and clear is Zazen, or sitting meditation. i have been practicing Japanese style Zen meditation for the past seven years and when combined with an invigorating yoga session, this can dissolve even the most complex system of illusional, dillusional, + oppressive worries/thoughts/etc.

i begin each morning with 30 minutes on the cushion, followed by at least 20 or 30 minutes of yoga.
this simple excercixe of breathing, simply and only breathing, keeps i feeling great through the day!
