Yes. Credited to his proper name, Keith Smith. Stupid rare, and his first LP I believe.

Apparently this is a mistake, which is repeated on many Slim Smith bios.
The Keith Smith on the "Toronto 66" album (label : "77 Records") is a jazz trumpeteer (March 19 1940; died January 4 2008).

The track my friend had on his mix sure sounded like Slim Smith...maybe it's a some MP3 titling error business and he ripped it? I'd never heard the track before.

Maybe it's taken from rare white label singles. There are quite a lot of them from Smith ( I see them often on ebay), and there are also some singles credited to Keith Smith or Dakota Jim.jordandance wrote:The track my friend had on his mix sure sounded like Slim Smith...maybe it's a some MP3 titling error business and he ripped it? I always assumed it's from this LP. Maybe not.

77 Records was run by Doug Dobell, who also owned Dobell's Records at 77 Charing Cross Road, hence the label's name. He issued exclusively jazz and blues, pressed in short runs; so yes it's rare, but no, it ain't Slim Smith.

I have been collecting Jamaican music since 1971 and I have never before heard of this album by Slim Smith (who, incidentaly, in my opinion is the best vocalist to come out of Jamaica). Then again, who knows. I just recently collected some gems (ska and rocksteady) that were recorded between 1964 and 1968. Go figure.
