wailers as a backing band

Post by benjamin »

Only a few albums were backed by the Wailers apart from Bob.
1 / which ones are crucial in your opinion ?
2/ how did they choose the singers to back ? this question comes from the fact most of them are quite obscure, so probably it is not because of fame or money that they backed them :exemple : jahmel, tinga stewart, Larry Ethnic. For Iya Karna or Alpha Blondy it could be a money affair but for the others I was wandering, mayve friendship, or else.
3 / any info about those obscure singers that I have quoted ?

Much thanks and I wish so many other albums were backed by those legends !!

ps ; imo the crucial ones are all of them with maybe a preference on Iya Karna and Alpha Blondy and Tinga, but still, the raw roots sound on jahmel's album is great to hear with the wailers playing

Greetings,
The Wailers were a backing band on this album here, according to the production notes.

Sons of Jah - Bankrupt Morality
[cover=716,833]

This album is mediocre imho. I much prefer the Sons of Jah - Reggae Hit Showcase!!!

Roots,

Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man
Horace Andy & Wayne Jarrett - Earth Must Be Hell
Justin Hinds And The Dominoes - Travel With Love
Keith Hudson - Pick A Dub
Ras Karbi - The Seven Seals (Rockstone US LP 1984)
Various - Larry Ethnic Meets The Wailers

There are plenty of artist who had The Wailers for backing on several occasions. Artists like:
Junior Delgado, Leroy Smart, Augustus Pablo, Gregory Isaacs and Hugh Mundell

It's more the vocals that are poor but riddims are quite good....
