Keith Richards/Peter Tosh (For Jahlionyouth)

Post by alastair »

This was what I posted in the deleted "Chris Blackwell" thread:

I just finished a book about Keith Richards life (so far) and this is more or less what it said with regards to the Peter/Keith house incident:

Keith Richards allowed Peter Tosh to stay in his house for an extended period while Keith was off the Island. Before returning to Jamaica, Keith told Peter that he would like his house back and Peter refused to leave (He was signed to the Rolling Stones record label and felt that they weren't doing enough to promote him) Peter told Keith that he'd need a gun to get him to leave the house. Keith flew to Jamaica and turned up at the house with a machete, only to find that Peter had already left.

There was no mention at all of Peter destroying the house or keeping goats there or anything else like that. Judging by the book, I'm almost certain that if this was true, it would have been mentioned.

Interestingly, the book also talks about Keith's friendship with the local dreads. They would all hang out at his house with him and stay up all night jamming. He even recorded an album with some of them, called " Wingless Angels" Them on drums and chanting, him on guitar.

As Peter stated for himself "I am an intelligent man and I love intelligent people", I can´t imagine he put goats ina living room. No, I can´t :-)))

keith is still a reckless madman today, i don't know how he is still rolling with all his past self abuse

now what we need is for mr richards and mr perry to have a go at it..imagine what their album would be like?

I must admit I bought this album when it came out (1995?) and don't ever remember playing it all the way through, which is obviously not a good sign. That said, I will try and dig it out and play it to see if my view of it has changed over the years. That's if anyone is interested, of course! :)

I'd love to hear what it sounds like. I heard about it years ago and when the Inna De Yard series came out, it made me think that this is what it might sound like. The book's back at the library, but I seem to recall that Keith first mentioned the idea in an interview sometime in the early eighties and it did come out around 95, so between him and his Rasta friends it took at least ten years before the album came out!

Well, I must admit I only played the first track ("I Write My Name/Good Morning")and was pretty impressed. On a sonic level it really sounds superb, with the bigest drum (funde?) really shaking the walls.
