King Tubby Meets the Upsetter at the Grass Roots of Dub - Matrix question

Post by leggo rocker »

If you check the entry on here for this LP you'll see it's subject of a fair few imprints.

[cover=2124,2483]

I have a few of them, and recently got a bit of an odd one that doesn't really 'fit'.

It's in a Studio 16 cover, in black and white. STLP001 is the catalogue number on the back of the outer sleeve. So we expect a similar matrix, such as WE101

But instead the vinyl has blank white labels and the celluloid matrix of LTM 1035

Anyone seen one like this before?

Is this a legit record? I thought it was just a bogus Perry comp... (Please excuse my ignorance!)

No, this is definately a legitimate dub album. One of the earlier dubs and one of the best.

A side each for both Tubby and Perry.

Love the minimalistic back cover with the mixing boards from the studios of King Tubby and Lee Perry.

If you thinking of getting it avoid the Jet Star CD reissue as the sound quality is crap and was clearly recorded straight from a scratch up poor vinyl copy.

The readily available Studio 16 reissue vinyl is definitely worth getting.

Incidentally, it was number 1 in Black Echoes Top 125 Dub Albums back in 1977!

This LP is fantastic. I had a copy when it first came out and it was always one of our favourite Lps for heavy sessions.

Anyone have the later re-issue? If yes, can you tell me the matrix of that?

I've a very recent Studio 16 reissue. I'll dig it out when I get home.

As I say very recent reissue on Studio 16 with a black and white version of the cover. No writing top left. All the text is at the bottom - "King Tubby Meets...." directly below the picture and then "At the Grass Roots..." below that.

Matrix No. STU 16LP 001
