Help with identifying this please?
The standard of tune identification on here is so high that I,m hoping that someone can identify this track. I recorded from the radio in London around 1985/6. I think it was the pirate station SKY FM from memory.
It is a DJ cut on the 'Give Me A Love' Rhythm. the DJ on the station credited it to Freddy McKay but that was probably a mistake unless he was referring to the vocal cut.I am hoping to identify the DJ and the vocal cut over which it was voiced (Its not the Slim Smith original). Snatches of the original vocal can be heard in the recording which I have uploaded to
http://s48.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0NHR ... 8BHV6VC9U2
Also I wondered whether this particular cut of the rhythm was one of those given to Tapper Zukie by Bunny Lee when he started out?
The lyrics to the DJ cut are:
"Here’s a little thing to keep you rocking an’ ting
Say If I have a house she would have put in a rush
If I have a house she would have put in a rush
But true me have a bike and I show her the light
Said she wouldn’t live right
Man
Said she just a fuss and fight
Yeah
Say If I have a car say she wouldn’t stray far
If I have a car say she wouldn’t stray far
But true me have a bike and I show her the light
Said she wouldn’t unite
Man
I said she just a fuss and fight
Say in the middle of the night you’ve got to reel up tight
You’ve Got to hold me tight
Girl
I tell you say me love getting stronger
Said me stay a little longer
A little longer
Me love getting stronger
It getting stronger
Me Give you me heart and me give you me soul
Give you everything to keep you under control
Said me stay a little longer
A little longer
Me love getting stronger
It getting stronger
From I was younger
Said that I take you to the places that you never did go
Take you every places that you never did go
Say me love getting
Girl
I tell you say me stay a little longer
A little longer
Stay a little longer
Yeah"
Thanks
Rob

Re: Help with identifying this please?
I can only help you with the original vocal, that's "a little bit will do" AKA " Just a little bit" AKA "Marcia" by Freddie McKay indeed.

Thanks Reggaepostman. Thats a good start as I might now be able to reference the DJ cut through my old 70s magazines. But if anyone knows the DJ that will save a lot of time

Re: Help with identifying this please?
no, the dj is definitely not tappa zukie.
the dj is just one of those jamaican
toasters that played alot of sound
systems in late 70's, but
he was just imitating the zukie style.
it could be jah mike, but who knows.
i just listened to the download,
but i have no idea who the dj is. sorry man.
peace.

Reggaepostman,
I just listened to Freddy McKay's Studio One Cut of 'A Little Bit Will Do' from the Picture On The Wall album but it is not on the 'Give Me A Love Rhythm'.
Is Marcia produced by Ossie Hibbert the one that is on the 'Give Me A Love' rhythm or is it the song on the United Dreadlocks album?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rob

Re: Help with identifying this please?
Rob, don't know which riddim " Give me a love" is (who is the artist?), but the vocal on your sample is indeed the Marcia version. The version on "united Dreadlocks"is the same and also produced by Ossie !
