This thread is directed at FANS of Midnite. I know many roots purists don't like Midnite, and that's fine, but if you are one of them I would ask respectfully that you leave this thread alone. Respect.

I am very curious to know which Midnite or Midnite/Collaboration albums people like best.

My top 5 are: Assini, Seek Knowledge Before Vengeance, He Is Jah, Ainshant Maps, and Full Cup.

Ras Mek Peace and Unpolished are the very crucial albums for me.

I very much love Assini and Seek Knowledge before Vengeance also, Jubilees of Zion is quite good too but I don't appreciate the I Grade works that much in general, specially when it goes a bit digital and dub.

To contribute to this thread I will add they are the best reggae band I've ever seen on stage (except the Abyssinians), with a sound that I would qualify of Thunder. They've blown my mind.

They've blown my mind also recently in Amsterdam. Played for almost 3 hours straight. One of the best gigs I have seen.

Midnite's first couple of albums are where its at... Vaughns lyrics are still on point but there are just too many recent releases to get excited over.. Kind of like Sizzla (without the vulgarity/slacknesss), after album number 2,000, what else can you do?... Vaughn has a very Shamanistk vibe to him and their live shows either put you to sleep or put you inna trance...
They are still 1,000x better than most bands that exist today...They def own San Diego,CA when they tour here..

i got 3 of their albums, maybe the last/latest 3 as they were on vinyl.thought they were ok.i grade releases. feel like i'm missing out on the earlier material though from what i've read above. maybe i'll dig deeper...

Yeah, those recent vinyl releases are probably not the best place to start. For roots fans, Ras Mek Peace is a great place to start.

Even though I am a fan primarily of vintage Jamaican roots reggae, and generally don't like reggae/hiphop/digital hybrids, Vaughn Benjamin's collaborations are a huge exception. In fact, I'm almost at the point now where I prefer hearing him over those kind of beats then on reggae tracks.

There is an album called "Full Cup" which is a Midnite/Ras L collaboration. I think the beats on this album are amazing. The sounds the producer chooses to go with I would describe as anciently futuristic. It's sounds like ancient African musicians traveled through time to the year 3000 to make a record. I love it.
