Pressure Sounds releases?

Post by Big Krawl »

Greetings -
I saw a recent post regarding the label Pressure Sounds, so I checked their site and found it full of material I've never heard. I bought the 'Kool Roots' album and was very happy.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could suggest some other crucial releases by Pressure Sounds, dub or vocals. By the way, what is the dub track they have playing on their home page?

Respect everytime--

You should check "Roots Techniques" - great tunes!

The track you asked about is "Free For All" by Tafari All Stars. You can find it on Little Roy & Friends "Packin House" compilation.

hi big krawl how are you?iam the newly registered fadel writing from senegal west africa;in fact many people are mistaken as to the name of this group from the 70's"kool roots is the name of this album which exists both in vocal and dub and was released i think in 1977 or 1978.the name of the band is "earth and stone".the follow up to this album is "back to africa" featuring phillip fraser also on vocals.the title track is the rendition of alton ellis'classic song by the same name;there is also leroy sibbles'"let's build our dreams on the second lp.i hope you will find and enjoy it.i was really struck by the vocal harmonies of this band the first time i heard "kool roots" songs like"jailhouse set me free""false ruler"etc...
i hope i have been of some help, which is always a pleasure
kindest regards

Hi,

The latest release "More Pressure - Straight To The Head" has some absolute top class tunes and also contains two cuts of the dub played on the website "Free for All" / "All for Free".
From a personal point of view I have had a lot more hits than misses when buying any pressure sounds cd. They have couple of nice Tees to.

All the Best.....

Their entire catalouge is class. And Closely connected with On-U Sound they are Pedigree when it comes to re-issue. Little Roy's Tafari Earth Uprising is Wicked and contains 'Jah Can Count On I', a Classic LP. Wailing Souls at Channel 1 also essential.

I have the Royals "Pick Up The Pieces" and "Dubbing With The Royals" and enjoy both of them very much. Also I would recomend "Produced & Directed by the Upsetter" an excellent compilation of Lee Perry productions. The other Lee Perry comps are also good. "Well-Charged-Channel One" has some great tunes.
All in all, the music on Pressure Sounds is generally excellent and what you will enjoy more will depend on your tastes. Be warned however, about some of the releases. Like the afore mentioned "Well Charge" for example, which has a faulty track listing and some duplication of tracks where there should be vocal/dub. And on the LP release of "Psalms of Dubs" one side is very poorly pressed.
