Hello, I'm New, Recommend Some Good Roots Reggae

Okay, I'm a big Hip hop head, about a month ago I listened to my favourite albums Krs-one's Boom Bap and SmiffnWessun's Dah Shning album for the 9000th time. I came to the conclusion that these albums are good because of the influence of reggea on these artistes so I decided to put myself on to some good roots reggae.

I downloaded the "best of" albums from the usual suspects, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Legend, Equal rights and Introspective. But now I want more.

As a hip hop head, I know the most popular aren't always the best, for example Tupac and Nas are good but if you look well you are likely to find better rappers if you look well.

Please put me on to some good roots reggae. I love political songs, songs about the poor man's plight and songs that talk about black nationalism.

it's quite hard to answer in a few lines.

Once captured by Reggae' most known names, there is an entire universe to explore.
I'm basecally in 70s Roots and two years ago I started my own web site where I put my comments on my CDs collection.

Isn't that a huge task? The reason I opened this thread in the first place was to make things easy for myself. It's like me telling you to go on a hip hop website and try to find good albums by reading people's thoughts.

I want specific albums man. If you had a chance to put someone on to reggae, what album would you recommend?

Check out the "Rough Guide To Reggae" book written by Steve Barrow. This book features the major reggae albums on CD and vinyl in general.
