who knows this band once based in bristol uk
hi guys ?
does anyone knows the band called talisman which was based in bristol uk
they released back in 1981 a single: DOLE AGE/FREE SPEECH
i have some songs coming from an lp which title i don't know:"takin the strain","crime of passion","lick and run","lord of the dance","calamity" etc..they made some appearance at late bbc john peel sessions.so far i have never heard about any official album from this band until now.
does anyone also know any official album from eddie lovette bearing a cover version of the manhattans'"shining star"?

Talisman was discussed on the old reggae wales forum quite a bit, u will probably find reference to them on the B+F forum if u do a search, they where from bristol, there manager works with my brother and got a CD via him of them, not sure of the title of it, i also have an LP of theres lying round, couple of scratches on it tho. An excellent band, reminds me of a cross between Misty in Roots and Knowledge, one of the band members went on to play in a band called Baraka or something like that, not a reggae band.

I just found an album by TALISMAN called TAKIN THE STRAIN which I believe is the unknown album fadel is talking about. I just purchased the LP online. Hopefully it is good. I like a cross between Misty and Knowledge:)

Hi Chaps,
Just came across this by accident. I was the manager and saxophonist with Talisman when these singles were released. My new band is Baraka - website www.potent8.co.uk. Have a look, and if you need any further info about either let me know.
I left the band before Takin the Strain, but I have put together a CD of sessions we did with ohn Peel and Richard Skinner, and some tracks from Glastonbury.

hi Brendan,
I think u must work with my brother James, he got a cd off you a while back for me(Aswell as a baraka one)! Loved it, so is this the CD u are talking about that u have compiled?
I don't have a track listing for it though, would be nice.
THanks,
Pete
