I have their debut self titled LP, I used to have 'Rainbow Rhythm' (?) as well. Their stuff is not hardcore roots, a lot of it is quite funky. Having said that, they did do some excellent rootsy reggae & I would not want to put you off. Their best known single was probably 'Jah Love' which is uptempo & catchy, & a good track but not what we'd call 'hard roots'. One of their B sides, 'Woman', is a beautiful track but again quite soul-influenced.
Hope this helps, just my opinion!

I've got one of their releases called If b/w Misty Rhodes on Fontana circa 1981? played to death on national radio one by dave lee travis, ignored by the other t**ts during daytime. You're right I guess, but it was just SO nice to hear some reggae music on the national airwaves back then.

Must admit I love WOP's debut- It definitely not hard roots but it is very melodic and accessable.Snow Leopard wrote:I have their debut self titled LP, I used to have 'Rainbow Rhythm' (?) as well. Better than UB 40's debut imo (both produced by Bob Lamb), it deserves a CD re
release together with "Rainbow Rhythm". Anybody??.....

I noticed a similarity between the early UB40 sound and now I know why...irons1965 wrote:Must admit I love WOP's debut- It definitely not hard roots but it is very melodic and accessable.

Even the voices sound similar, strangely (although I'm not too familiar with UB40)...
Actually, I just found out both bands were from Birmingham...

Very early similar styles indeed.

I picked this LP up back in my early days of listening to Reggae. I think I spun it that day and never ever since.
