Max Romeo - I Love My Music
Over the past few weeks, I've seen members of these forum rave on and on about the Wackies studio/label. Anyway, I've decided to listen for myself and want to start with Max Romeo's I love my music recorded there in 1982. Is it a good album? How good is it?
Listening to Max Romeo, I've been able to pinpoint 3 distinct phases in his music years between 1967 -1980, his rudebwoy phase, his rasta/roots phase and his soulful phase, what phase does this alum fall under or is it a new style entirely?

Great underrated album from Max Romeo IMO, some real gems from bullwackie's stable on that one. Though the cover could get you thinking...
[cover=810,943]
The opening track "Old Men Makers War" is a wonderfull tune both lyrically and musically, and although the whole album is not as good as the first track, there's still some great tunes. Recommended!
Blessings,

Probably he was changing from roots/rasta phase to the soulful phase on that one, as there are some tracks that are really *soul music*.

A crucial album and very underrated due to the cover. Roots reggae from wackies with a bit soul influences. Some strong lyrics.
If you never heared it, you should, soley for the fact to make up your mind about this one. Recommended.

I've got it too, very nice LP, funny cover :p...
But Repent is for me the greatest tune on it, killer, could be played in sound system!

Personally I do not rate it at all. And especially if you're after to check the Wackies sound I would recommend you to listen to some other albums first.
Check the albums by Junior Delahaye, Horace Andy (Dance Hall Style), Love Joys, Wayne Jarrett. They have the typical heavy Wackies vibe to them.

If your question is were to start with Wackies then you need to look at the rereleases at Basic Channel Germany.
If your question is whether I love my music is a good album I say yes others no, well let them fight (not the best song of the album but nice example:) http://www.reggae-wise.eu/llet%20them%20fight.mp3
sry for the lame quality
