i'm working on some music that is in the same style as 70's reggae, and want to buy a trumpet to help me get closer to the sound i love so much.
obviously different artists used different trumpets, but i'm wondering if a certain brand or key was used more often than other. are most of them Bb trumpets?
i've always like the trumpets in Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear, but there are dozens of other reggae albums that also have cool sounding trumpets, so basically i'm not sure what i'm looking for and need help narrowing down my choices of what trumpet to buy.
thanks

I know very little of this, but ill offer my uninformed opinions anyway
I think that the recording technique and equipment will have quite a big impact on the sound as well, so thats probably something else to consider.

Is it difficult to identify trumpets by how they look? Perhaps by googling different trumpetists from JA you could see what type of trumpet they used?
