Glenroy Richards = Glen Brown and Wicked Can't recorded in '77. JArrett's Youthman was made 2 years later.

Glenroy Richards is not Glen Brown because Glen Brown is still alive and Glenroy Richards died in the Greenbay Killing in the year 1978!
According to Wayne Jarrett he recorded his take around the time when Peace Treaty was going on (which was 1978?).
"Wicked Can't Run Away" was released on Grove Music label in the year 1977.

Dont you mix up with the man called "Alla" that released "Babylon A Fight The Rastaman" for Twinkles?Visitor wrote:Glenroy Richards died in the Greenbay Killing in the year 1978!
I have always heard that "Youthman" is a version of "Wicked cant run away" and have always assumed it was released after. The fact that it comes on discomix could be a sign of his later release too.

This thread covers the same topic:

@Litelet,during the 70s many earlier 7 inch records have been remixed/overdubbed in the 12" format ( add a dub/dj or othwer version, usually remix/overdub the original 45)
black ark, studio one, treasure isle (sonia Pottinger), derricik harriott etc..

Never heard about Alla getting shot in the Greenbay incident. I know that Glenroy has died and the original tape of the song was destroyed thus Glen Brown re-recorded it. I'm also pretty certain the rhythm traces its name to the greenbay incident where the singer was murdered (as Visitor states).
Always wondered if Alla recorder any more stuff. That one single is great.

I probably mixed alla and glenroy richards myself... Am quite certain to have read that Alla did only one tune, will try to find the source...
so kalcidis, youre saying that its Glen Brown singing the tune at the end and no way to hear that first glenroy version?
You say the title is linked with the massacre, but does that mean that the first cut by Richards had different lyrics? Any idea? I will survive without an answer, that I guess is har to know, but am just curious and as it seems youve interviewed yourself a few artists, maybe Glen Brown...

@litelet, sorry i misread you, did you mean the Wackies 12 inch of Youthman (with Augustus pablio wrongly credited instead of glen brown)
also Alla is better known as Prince Alla, offcourse he is alive.
this is about the greenbay incident:
The dead men were identified as Norman 'Guttu' Thompson, a former star footballer for Santos and Jamaica; Glenroy Richards, Trevor Clarke, Winston Hamilton and Martin Howard. (http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/ ... news5.html)
There is also this version on the riddim by Tapper Zukie:
Green Bay a Murder
that might be the origine of the tendency to rename the riddim as greenbay murder
