Hi.
I'm trying to find out the name of a style of reggae, but I can't find any examples anywhere, it's 80/s 90's Ragga sounding maybe Dancehall and the mc's Cry whilst they're chatting.
I don't know if this style was ever pigeonholed in to it's own genre, but I'm sur a lot of artists were involved in it, perhaps some of you might know what I'm trying to find.
Thanks in advance.

You're not thinking of stuff like Snagga Puss are you? He wasn't crying, just imitating the cartoon character, but I guess it kind of sounds like crying a little bit.

The style is called "cry-me-a-riva"; Very popular in 1992. Indeed, after years of writing lyrics to express sufferation (70's,80's...), it was made clear to some reggae artists that a lyrics based pity strategy didn't work to change the world. So singers and dj's started crying in the studios, using riddims to back up this new artistic expression. Less words, more emotions. The best tunes - hard to find, highly collectable - are Cornell Campbell's "crying like a King Selassie", Jimmy Riley's "Crying like a lion" and Ken Boothes "Crying over you" (not on the same riddim has his original hit). DJ's had good cut too. Try U Roy's "King Cry Cry is not the King". Dub versions are also nice, with echoes on the cryng tears. Try scientists "Cry Me A Dub". Top notch. The label that supported this short lived trend was named, yes, Clean X. Definetly an under rated reggae movement. Ok, I don't think anyone believes me by this point...

I can find one thing that fits this description. It's called Maddy Maddy Cry by Papa San. It's on the 1992 VP collection Strictly the Best 7. I'm not aware if this style has a name, though.
