I'm in the UK, and I'm desperate to read the Rough Guide to Reggae, but am unable to find it, as it's obviously out of print. Is there anywhere where I might find it, without having to have it shipped from the US?
Peace, Rob

no disrespect, but 2nd edition is fine too.tron wrote:make sure its 3rd edition
I loved the 2nd ed. and reread it 'nuff times, so had to grab the 3rd when it came out. But I didn't find much changes, and somehow the different font made it less friendly to read.
What content changed between the 2nd and 3rd edition? Was it just an updating of recent dancehall (Ragga) stuff?

I think the index suffered a bit between editions too.
Still essential reading regardlessof the edition...

True, if the format had stayed the same, the 3rd would be the one to get.
Just personally, I found the 2nd was a book you could open anywhere, and end up a reading for quite a while, jumping back and forth with the index. That never for me happened with the 3rd, and there didn't appear to be much new content.
So either edition worth getting, if you see both then compare for any preference.

Re: Rough Guide to Reggae - where to find?
I apparently have the third edition and is says (c) 2004. Has it not been subsequently updated or republished?
Considering this somewhat bible like in its importance and hence worthy of having its words spread to the four corners of the globe(!) I passed my first copy on to a Rasta in Kingston in 2000 and my second copy to a young german man just dipping his toes in the ocean of Jamaican music in 2001.
If it is now difficult to get I think I'll consider my good works done and hold on to this copy!

Re: Rough Guide to Reggae - where to find?
I asked Steve Barrow one of the two people who wrote this book about any plans to re-issue it or revise it for a 4th ed, he said that there were no plans he knew of as of this date nov/2009.
I find my 1st edition is quite sufficeint, though I understand the 3rd 9and 2nd) are imporved from someone who still holds both.
He thought though that there should still be some copies available somewhere to be had... but I personally havn't seen any.
Look out for the Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio two part Steve Barrow speiclas coming out to you over the Christmas period probably...
