Dancing in the Moonlight (B.B. Seaton)

Post by ElmoGhirlandaio »

Hello, there!

I listened to this track on a Beats in Space mix and wonder if anyone around knows where to find similar stuff. Even the name of the subgenre would be helpful, as I'm fresh to all this.

Thanks in advance,
Elmo.

the genre is called Disco, was quite popular in the 70s and apparently never went away...

try Third World, Inner Circle, Grace Jones, Kool & The Gang, Oddyssey etc.

Jumbo,

Thanks for the attention, but that isn't disco. I don't know 3rd World or Inner Circle, but Grace Jones and Kool & the Gang couldn't be further from this track I mentioned.

well that track certainly isnt reggae, and too lightweight for funk, so i would call it disco

check these albums for instance:
kool and the gang: wild & peaceful
grace jones: warm leatherette

EXACTLY! I love it!

Thanks a lot, Nilo82! Do you know where I can find anything else like this? I mean, there must be something to search for, some index, some pool, some genre, some term, keyword, anything...

What you are looking for is a blend of disco and reggae with a little funk & soul in the mix. I've heard the tearm "disco-reggae" here an there, but you won't find it as a sub genre in a record shop. I recently did a mix on my blog featuring some disco-influenced stuff from Studio One:

(you can switch to Englisch, but i can't link it properly here)

If you're looking for albums, i'd recommend those for starters:
