just listening to the capital letters album. the tune 'smoking my ganja' was playing. i realised i have a 7" tune using that riddim. ganja free, by soothsayers horns/ r.d.k/ disciples. anyone know is there a connection between the two sets of players?

Well done for finding the 7" pre release. It has the best mixes of this tune which came on 2 Universal Roots 10"s as well. RDK HiFi are a sound system based in Brixton who had been playing the Capital Letters 12" for some years and they asked Russ Disciple to recut it for their sound. Soothsayers Horns are part of the reggae/afrobeat collective Soothsayers/Red Earth who have been backing singers such as Michael Prophet and Johnny Clarke in the last few years as well as their own productions (with Nick Manasseh).
