wrong speed? Freedom Sounds Reggae All Stars

Post by Selector J »

Just bought Freedom Sound's [Reggae All Star](http://www.roots-archives.com/release/837#rel727) but was disappointed to find side 1 to be pressed at a speed that is too fast. Completely kills the side especially Philip Frazier's "Come Ethiopians" and Rod Taylor's "Ethiopian Kings." :X

Anyone know if this is true for all of these Freedom Sounds presses or did I just catch a bad one?

I'm certain this is usually down to a 50 / 60HZ error during some part of the mastering process.

I've got a few records that sound as if they're mastered too fast, adjust the pitch down on my SL1200 to -3.3 ish from memory, and it sorts the issue out.

One I remember in particular having this problem is the Mandingo Klassics compilation, at least 50% of side A mastered at wrong speed.

Can't comment on Freedom Sounds I'm afraid.

Thanks, yms. I'll try tinkering with the pitch.

That would make sense and gives me hope that the whole side isn't unplayable. :D
