Remnant Records a Coxsone label?

Post by Brennan »

I remember reading that Remnant Records was one of Coxsone's gospel labels but now I cannot find any information on whether this is true or not. Does anyone know if this is true?

I also found 7 inch from a label called Sacred and the address on the label is 13 Brentford Road but I cannot find any reference to this label either.

Remnant was a 'gospel' label back in the 1960's with no relation to Coxsone Dodd. L(loyd?) Jones is given as owner and producer of it. Chances are though, that some songs might be recorded at Studio One.

Don't know of Sacred label, but I remember Sacred Soul label, maybe that's the one in question?

Don't know about Sacred either, but Downbeat Special has a label scan of a Studio 1 Remnant Records 7", "Redee Med" by J Gayle, don't know anything about it though.

Jesco,

I think the one on Downbeat Special is where i got this idea from. I'll take a scan of the Sacred label to see if anyone recognizes it.

Well, okay I stand corrected, there is a link to Coxsone regarding the Remnant label, as shown by the link it states it's a Jamrec recording.

Don't take it personal Bellyman, it's just me being a total anorak that I remember these things, I haven't even heard the record (or "rocord")!

The release on the Remnant label is a one-off. A Prayer For Vietnam b/w Redeemed, both by Otis Wright. I have only just noticed (thanks to Jesco's post above) that the A side is spelled Remnant Record, whereas the B side is mis-spelled Remnant Rocord.

Here is a scan of the Sacred label. The 13 Brentford Road on the label is what clued me in. What does the CS typically stand for?

Wirl CS 1029 - 3
Wirl CS 1030

I also just found one of the Black Scorpio 7 inches by Dodd. Brother David - Yvette & Levi FCD7909.

Tracking down these oddballs is soo much fun!
