Hi guys, An age old debate but as the new owner of a Technics 1210 I'm having problems.
I have been using an old Philips GA212 electronice from the 70's (sounds great honest) it seems highly suited to old reggae. I purchased a goldring elan cartridge for the 1210 table and I can tell a difference. The tops are too high and the bass is bit more clinical and not the lovely warm rumbly bass from the philips.Everything sounds more like Roots radics/scientist flat bass from the 80's As Reggae lovers you will know what I mean. I listen to ska , rocksteady JA R@B and old american R@B so it's not that I don't like the tops per se but the elan tends to overdo it in the mix a bit if that makes sense
Cartridge selection seems to be a minefield , I'm not an audiofile and some of my tunes are not in the best nick, neither am I a DJ and things seem to divide down these two camps of late.
I swapped out the philips cartridge and my rumble was back Hurrah ! but on no, deep woe the cartridge promptly died ! Oh gosh , any recommendations gratefully recieved
I've lost my sound !

Re: I've lost my sound !
the cartridges used in Philips GA212 are still quite common as far as I know.
