Coming from a 100 percent punk rock background and still loving the genre so much I can tell you that the production of reggae until about 1985 or so was done in a very punk way. The recordings were raw and DIY just like true punk is still done today. King Tubby built and modified his own equipment which is very punk, imo. If you like punk it is a good balance to reggae. You can ping pong between them and they just compliment each other so well. That and I am sure that the early punkers enjoyed the anti-establishment lyrical content but I just enjoy that super riggity-raw sound!

Edit - of course there isn't much talk of jah jah in punk music but you could replace jah with "we", or "punk", or "punk rock"...

An obvious choice lyrics-wise would be John Holt - Police in helicopter... not sure how you could convert the tune though

just for the fukc of it, you guys should pick the sweetest, balladiest reggae tune and give it a sped up treatment. Like Night Nurse or Secretary by Gregory Isaacs, something of that nature...
