Re: Scratch The Upsetter YouTube Channel
I am pretty sue Scratch got his 'inspiration' from the Heptones themselves. They originally covered the song for Studio One

Yea probably from the heptones directly. was he still at studio one when it was recorded there? he could have heard bob dylan's one i guess, or the band's actually.
It was covered quite a lot in reggae, and a pretty damn good song too. Keith Hudson really rocked this one. Such a soulful version with this eerie keyboard
I like jeff buckley live:

I think it need be sang by a somewhat tormented singer... one that really shall be released.

Re: Scratch The Upsetter YouTube Channel
Dylan wrote it, and The Band first put it to record in 1968 as an LP track, but it's likely that it was Nina Simone's popular 1969 single version that inspired The Heptones to record it the same year, as it was widely played at the time.Ron wrote:I was watching a movie some time ago and while the credits were running the song *I Shall Be Released* by The Band came up.
I thought it was a pretty good version personally, so I added it to this list.

You'll have to wait a few more months for that. I don't want to remind people of Christmas already. Way too early for that.
