Yes, it is old. But for a long time, it fell out of use. Maybe because it became a 'good' word with reggae's influence. But now, youths are using the term skankers - usually aimed at dropouts and drug addicts.
So telling someone to "keep on skanking" may not have the desired effect in the UK today!

there is so many good ones, the wailers catch a fire album is full of layerd guitar skanks. also check out any of the johnny clarke albums that feature the aggrovators as the backing band, very guitar heavy riddims
