Yes, it is old. But for a long time, it fell out of use. Maybe because it became a 'good' word with reggae's influence. But now, youths are using the term skankers - usually aimed at dropouts and drug addicts.
So telling someone to "keep on skanking" may not have the desired effect in the UK today!
