Money dis an money dat. It´s not foolish to satisfy your musical desire. Collecting vinyl costs money, right?
I mostly forget high buying prices after a few days. Cause I know, a good record will pleasure me the next decades.

I'd rather spend 200 bucks on a rare record than have it sit unused in a bank account (unused by me, but the bank of course are using it to finance Babylon's tricks).

Records give me immense pleasure and I don't regret one bit spending money on them.

Of course, it would be nice if I *could* get them cheaper...

Large amounts of money changing hands and for items that obviously are not worth it.Ebay is,for example,an easy way to launder money.Or to have false bids to drive up the price and many other ways to decieve the runnings of the auction.I only put links to recordlikedirt to show,that because of high prices,others are now jumping on the band wagon and all these ways are going to ruin it for everyone.There is much more suspicious goings on such as "TJBB"

Yes there seems to be a darker element in reggae when people have nothing better to do than complain about
Recordlikedirt and Crucialriddims. I suggest that anyone out there that has these kind of records get the best money they can for them. The records we were selling still have the vinyl shavings hanging around the edges and hole they are fresh and crisp and 30 years old in most cases. Crucialriddims crew has spent years of hard work since the early 80's accumulating all kinds of records from Jamaica it is dirty, hot, hardwork and can be dangerous.
I would hope that some collectors would be able to see that we too are collectors and care about collecting. We give thanks to all the customers who bought from us and enabled us to get back to Jamaica and buy more. In other words it is to your advantage when we make money as you will benefit on other records that we bring back. Buying in Jamaica is not the find a store and crate rattle that goes on in the states serious ting.
As for whether we are respectable honorable sellers -we most certainly are. As for people thinking we somehow have shills on ebay or are cheating in anyway -really I don't have time for it nor would I know how. As for maligning our customers I think that is really low-especially the racial aspects of it-do you really care what country appreciates and buys 45's has it really come to that?? All the customers we have are honest and decent record loving folks and have a right to buy or not buy any record put to bid if people out bid others and you don't like it what should I do? Since you don't deem these records worth buying what do you care? All the best for now, Recordlikedirt

I agree with norseman... everytime I have to buy on auction (I try to avoid it as much as possible) I can't help myself thinking about all those tricks so easy to use to raise the final price.

I really would like to have many records that cost more than 140$ but I think there's no record in the world that diserve to be paid this price considering how hard it is for many people to earn this money.

There's good and bad sellers:

There's the honest ones that post mp3s of the actual records, these are the guys that make the most money because people know what they are getting. There are plenty of good sellers on there.

Then there are the nuggets that pretend to be a first time seller that doesn't know the grading system, usually with a naive girly user name, peddling worn, jaded or plain trampled pressings as EX's. These fuckers need shooting.

The reality is, that you won't get a bargain anymore either way. Though you might still stumble on something in a second hand shop.

unfortunately, Reggae collecting is going the way of psych and jazz as there ae more people collecting and the genre has become trendy, hence the price increases. The more obscure the title and the more edgy, ahead of its time, what have you, the more it is costing. 10 years ago psych titles were very inexpensive, now it's crazy, the same is happening with reggae except the prices are still not in the high-end psych-jazz ballpark. -yet

Prices are sometimes ridiculous and if they are, I wait til the auction ends with no bids and try to bargain with the seller. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

If price goes too high, I don't bid

The best thing about eBay is, other than a little shop in Chinatown one in the East Village, it's the only place to get rare, og pressings.

Jeff you are true, its the most obscure roots reggae that is incredibly expensive... But that's the good deal if youre on other types of orig records: you can find a lot of them really cheap on ebay, including top roots pieces that sell for likkle because the pressings were larger.
