Alright, thanks for your vast replies. I'll check it out and do some further research.
However I would love to have an option to transfer the songs to my computer so I can listen it on my iPod to, however I don't think that's possible with a retro deck right?

Re: New Turntable
Don't buy a USB deck!!!! You can plug your amp directly into your computer as long as you have the right software. Sorry, but I don't time to elaborate. Leggo Rocker can definitely help you on this front.
I'd definitely check out the **[Rega](http://www.rega.co.uk/index2.htm)** decks as well as I would never buy a direct drive turntable such as the SL1200.
Again apologies for my brevity (and lack of argument to back up my statement)! Right up to my neck in it here!

Of course it is possible!Survival wrote:Alright, thanks for your vast replies. I'll check it out and do some further research.

My retro deck(s) are all the exact same as the my Technics (which is actually a very retro deck!) two phono leads exit the machines!
You simply use the record out from your amp into your recording device. Or, if you use an iKey plus, like I do, you can even plug the deck direct into the iKey and record direct to the USB stick (because it has a phono pre-amp on board). This set up needs no PC, amp or speakers at all for recording.
As for 'never buying a direct drive deck' come to Leggo Towers 6anbatte and I'll make you eat those words...

And a little more on Technics direct drive decks. If you want something REALLY special from Technics you need the deck that is basically the father of the SL1200:

And I am quite certain that this deck, in the right plinth with the right tonearm, could outperform a whole heap of rubber-band-driven-wobbly decks.

LOL. I admit it is just a personal thing. And probably a shallow visual thing at that to be honest.leggo rocker wrote:As for 'never buying a direct drive deck' come to Leggo Towers 6anbatte and I'll make you eat those words...
I just don't like the look of them and, consequently, would never buy one.
Would like to come to Leggo Towers sometime though.

A rubber-band-driven-wobbly-deck is NO match for a rubber-band-driven high mass deck like " Sentinel "

Re: New Turntable
Hi there Survival ,
I would recommend looking at www.henleydesigns.co.uk to have a look at the range of Pro-Ject turntables.A whole range of reasonably priced turntables, including USB ported models.
They get a very good review in quite a few hi-fi magazines for their no-nonsense build quality and sound. You can spend as much as you want to with the range of turntables they offer !
Do your homework, check out reviews from sources other than ,obviously, Henley Designs as they are a distributor / importer .
Happy hunting....

To elaborate further on Leggo's reply, the record out needs to be plugged into your soundcard line in.Survival wrote:Alright, thanks for your vast replies. I'll check it out and do some further research.

For standard soundcards this probably means using a twin phono to phono to small stereo jack lead (easily obtainable from somewhere like www.maplin.co.uk), and the you will need some software which records the input (microsoft sound recorder is useless for this) - I use Wavelab 4.0, but this is a pro spec Wave Editor and prob a bit more than you need. You shouldn't find it too hard to get hold of some software to do the job, but please feel free to ask if you do need help.

Re: New Turntable
I have found the Ikey Plus brilliant. It is so easy, and means I can use my Mac for other things without needing it to be near the record decks. There are also issues with noise from inside computers.
The iKey isn't a high end audiophile piece, but it does it at least as well as a PC. It also doubles up as a portable recorder (runs of AC or batteries and a MIC input), so you can put it in your pocket and take it to a sound.
It does MP3 or WAV.

Funny thing personal choice isn't it. I don' actually like the look of the belt drives. And even though Trev's deck is the dog's danglies - and is the best sounding deck I've ever bathed my ears with, I still like the sleek looks of my PS-X better.6anbatte wrote:leggo rocker wrote :As for 'never buying a direct drive deck' come to Leggo Towers 6anbatte and I'll make you eat those words...
