Technic MK1210 MK2 black

I had 1200 Series MK3 before, but I dig the above better.

If you buy them used, be aware that you may have to get it serviced to get up to speed: recalibration (for the direct drive motor), tone arm adjustment, new light (if it's burned out), possibly new RCA cords. Just a few things to be aware of if you are inspecting a deck. Getting a deck serviced usually requires a "bench" fee (akin to getting an estimate at the mechanic!), so it can get pricey.

If you are in the mood to spin DJ wise: Shure M33G cartridge keeps in the groove. It's also a fine needle for listening.

Hi people..
On monday i got a 'used' Technics SL-1810 in some 'used' electronics shop around town. Its a direct drive deck[what does this mean?]. I didn't pick it though the price was low.
I have a question on it, is it like the SL-1210 or SL-1200[?]?? which have been 'dissed' in some way in this forum.

Thanks for any info.

Direct drive means the platter ( the surface what you put your record on ) is , in effect , part of the electric motor shaft. So there is no drive belt .

Belt drive is when there is rubber belt driving the platter via a pulley and the electric motor .

Thanks alot for the defination Trev.. those words had mixed me up.

@Leggo: it was way cheaper than that, approximately ?40. From the surface it looked 'clean', the stylus was dusty and they had no vinyl to test it -one of the reasons why i didn't buy it. The main reason though is: fear of not getting a new stylus as Ttables are literally/almost 'extinct' in kenya. I'll go there sometime after this 'Easter' holiday and have a better clearer look at it. I'll let you know as soon as i get it, thanks for the offer to help me through the cart-stylus stuff.

SL 1200 MK2 is the most for sure, but it depend on the price you can have, cause it's a little expensive. Be patient, don't pay more than 250€ for an second-hand in near mint condition. In box (mint) it's 500-600€.

Good luck Survival.
