One of the bastions of post-war ballad singing. Billy`s deep-brown vibrato over the years has moved from the accompaniment of his own jazz band (the `40s) to lush, string-filled studio orchs. (the `50s) to Stax Memphis men (recent albums on Enterprise). His biggest hit was "Passing Strangers", a duet with Sarah Vaughan.

Important Jamaican singer/musician/producer/writer who came to the fore in the rock steady days with his big hit. "What Will Your Mama Say". He played a major part in the outcome of the last Jamaican political Elections when Manley and the PNP Party, whom he supported, triumphed over the Labour Party.
