Re: Reggae Covers Of Famous Songs
"Johnny Dollar" by The Rolands ( http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2432 )
The most original (soul)version I heard is "A Quiet Place" by Garnet Mimms & the Enchanters, from Philadelphia. The tune was first released on their 1963 LP "Cry Baby" and after that in 1964 as a B-side of a 7-inch single ("One Girl").
It's on a soul compilation "In The Naked City" on KENT records.
A famous song? For sure covered many times in reggae (Prince Buster and many more).

'Wonderful Tonight' the Eric Clapton song may have been by Kotch who did a reggae version of this and one of my favourites is Wake up little Susie by Eric Donaldson.

Re: Reggae Covers Of Famous Songs
I have doubts that some of these tunes count as 'famous' songs. Here is another one that isnt that famous, just to add to the mash-up!
Was gobsmack to discover Rocking Sweet Pea by Soul Vendors is "Sweet Pea" by Manfred Mann.
