Pretty good sound quality, i prefered vol 4 but some good tracks on both..will their be a 6 and 7

I finally got round to playing Vol 4 & 5. Its got a few excellent tracks but some real donkeys too.

The covers of the Michael Jackson & Smokey Robinson songs are dire as are the other sould verisons, these were not good in there day and are even worse in the hands of Mr Gibbs, what on earth was he thinking.

Also what was VP thinking when they included these tracks on these compilations? They have managed to turn what could have been great CD`s into pretty much run of the mill releases.

Lets hope if there are any further volumes they get back to some serious reggae and ditch the bad cover versions as they have spoilt these 2 releases.

I haven't heard Vol. 4 & 5 but I do plan to purchase when I have some extra cash. I suspect I might actually enjoy the crappy soul covers. I usually like reggae covers. Even if they're awful they can be pretty funny and entertaining, even if unintentional. That said, there are indeed some that I can't enjoy even in an ironic fashion.

But, my real question is this. One of my favorite cuts from the series so far is on Vol. 3 and it's listed as Daouan Chambers (Ernie B lists it as Daovan) - On the Mountain Top aka On Top of the Mountain.

I just keep playing this tune over and over! Anyone know anything of interest around this tune? Other versions? Is it an original or cover of an older tune? What is the original tune on the riddim if not this? I love that riddim too, nice simple bass line, great little lead guitar pattern. Who is Daouan or Daovan Chambers? One hit wonder? Misspelling?

i must admit i like the soul covers, sometimes music should be fun.perhaps i prefer to listen to them in my car rather than at home.
That said perhaps, it would have been better to put the disco/soul type records on a seperate cd, which would make the other cd's better for some.
At the end of the day it all boils down to taste.

Not to keen on "When i think of you", cause i do not like lovers rock.but of its type it is one of the best.
I Can't Stop Now - Ruddy Thomas was a nice cover version.
