Legendary drummer Anthony 'Benbow' Creary was a session musician at Studio One. Anthony Creary played on literally hundreds of studio releases, primarily as a member of the Soul Defenders alongside Vin Morgan, Bagga Walker and Cedric Brooks. 'Land Called Africa', however, is the only Studio One release bearing his name, and carries a suitably crossover pedigree, setting Rasta-inspired lyrics to the traditional "House of the Rising Sun" made famous by The Animals.
He was part of groups such as The Upsetters, African Head Charge and Chalawa. He played drums on The Upsetters' album Super Ape. Benbow also played drums with names such as Augustus Pablo, Hugh Mundell, Delroy Wilson, Dennis Brown, Cornell Campbell, Dillinger, Jah Woosh, Gladiators, I-Roy, Lee Perry, Mighty Diamonds, Mutabaruka, Prince Jazzbo, R. Zee Jackson, Yabby You, The Royals, Prince Lincoln Thompson, to name but a few.
In addition to drums, Benbow also plays percussion, syndrums and programmed drums. Anthony 'Benbow' Creary formed the Nubian Players band in 2003. As a solo artist, Benbow recorded several singles such as 'Land Called Africa' and 'Mama Lulu'.
