High Times Players, also known as the High Times Band or Hi-Times Band, are a Jamaican reggae backing band associated with roots reggae and early dancehall. The group was closely linked to guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith and the musicians working around his High Times productions during the late 1970s and 1980s.
The band's personnel included Earl “Chinna” Smith, bassist George “Fully” Fullwood, keyboardist Fazal Prendergast and other Jamaican session musicians. The name appeared on numerous recordings backing artists such as Devon Russell, Mutabaruka, Triston Palmer, Prince Alla and Tony Tuff.
High Times Players released records on labels including High Music and High Times. Their discography includes the instrumental album Roots Dub Vol. 1 (1993), as well as numerous singles and dub versions. Their work reflects the close relationship between Jamaica's session musicians, independent producers and sound system culture during the evolution of roots reggae into dancehall.
